Antigone work 2012-2013

"This installation is the culmination of the work and influences I have been exposed to throughout this academic year. The journey started by focusing on specific aspects of the Greek tragedy “Antigone” and evolved into a quest to rationalise key emotions and beliefs into tangible concepts through the symbolic choice of shapes, materials and colours. "
Round the world, butterflies are seen as the departed souls of our ancestors. The emergence of the adult butterfly symbolises the freedom of the soul upon death. Butterflies also are known as symbols of transformation due to their impressive process of metamorphosis and symbolise significant change in the course of one’s life, personality or way of thinking.
The photos I have included for your consideration are from the installation that I exhibited at the FDA Final Exhibition at Highlands in June 2013. The installation measures approximately 4m in length x3.5m wide and x3m high.
The installation is completed through the use of select music and lighting effects.
For this Installation I used different materials and techniques, included soil, paper, latex, sculpture, textiles.
